OLPC Initiatives

Smart Partnership with OLPC and MIT

Our collaboration with the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) organisation started in July 2008 when our Education team received an invitation to participate in a 5-day workshop in Bangkok and where we had the pleasure of meeting Professor Emeritus Nicholas Negroponte, then Chairman of OLPC.

As a show of support for the movement of rural digital literacy, Danawa privately funded the purchase of few batches of XO laptops for distribution to rural and underserved schools in Sarawak. Sharing our experiences and expertise from the OLPC team, we conducted seminars for local teachers on the use of XO laptops and Sugar activities to support learning in classrooms and in communities.

In November 2008, we were appointed as an Advisor for the OLPC Asia Pacific Region (OLPC APAC) to share our experiences with other stakeholders within the OLPC community.

We continue to maintain OLPC’s presence in select schools and promote the use of Sugar learning activities developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Boston, USA in rural schools in Sarawak.
