Science on Wheels

Science on Wheels (SoW) is Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) outreach program which aims to bring Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education to Primary and Secondary school students in rural and underserved areas across Sarawak, inspiring them to gain interest in STEM education. Under the SoW flagship program, local delivery partners implement various courses ranging from coding to life sciences.

Danawa Education has been appointed as one of the delivery partners to implement the SoW program starting year 2023. This partnership allows us to continue expanding the reach of our proprietary coding course Fun with Code (FwC) that was first initiated in 2022, which saw the participation of over 800 students from 16 schools located in the districts of Baram, Belaga, Julau, Kanowit, Kapit and Song. The success of this implementation was possible with the continued support from all stakeholders including Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM), Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Sarawak (JPNS), Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah (PPD), principals, headmasters and teachers.

Fun with Code introduces young learners to visual block coding concepts through exploratory learning – they build, create and design fun games using Scratch, a popular, free programming language. This course extends learning beyond the main curriculum using engaging, fun-filled activities. Its goal is to ensure development of digital literacy and practice of 21st century skills in learners between the ages of 10 and 15. Essential coding concepts are explained and practised using build-along game projects that guide young coders step-by-step, using visual examples and easy-to-follow instructions.

Cohort 2023/2024 and Beyond…

We are hopeful that we will be able to reach more schools for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 school terms. We are excited to share that the following districts and schools have already jumped on the SoW bandwagon thus far:
